The Reality Check

The truth is, the music industry isn't a fairytale where someone magically discovers you and hands you success on a silver platter. Those days of waiting to be “discovered” are long gone.
Today, artists have more tools than ever—streaming platforms, social media, and affordable recording gear—to create their own opportunities. This means your career doesn't start when a label signs you; it starts the moment you decide to show up consistently with your music.
Instead of waiting for permission, it's about taking ownership and building your own seat at the table. This is the time to take advantage of what is available to you, show up for yourself every day, and take life by the horns to go after it. No one is stopping you but yourself at this point.
Artists from the past lacked access to these tools, so they had to rely on labels, studios, and others to help them discover their work. However, this is no longer the case today. In many ways, we have the advantage. Independence is a beautiful thing.
Independent artists have shown us that there is another way. Today's artists have paved a path that leads to them reaping the benefits of their hard work—not the label. Labels want to own everything from your name to your image, music, and everything else they can get their greedy hands on, and have you do all the work. The label racks in millions, while the artist tries to figure out the financial details.
In my opinion, this kind of activity is unacceptable, and we shouldn't have to tolerate it in this day and time. Research the numerous tools available and begin charting your path. There have never been so many technologies and tools created to help you win. In other words, stop waiting for permission. Let's make things happen today.
As we work towards our goal of making it in the music industry, let's take a moment to define what “making it” means to you. What does this mean for you? It will look different for everyone, and that's okay.
In my opinion, you should become as much as your character can handle. Being a world-renowned artist is a lot of work, accompanied by high expectations from numerous people, and not to mention the spiritual implications that come with it. Suppose you have thought about all of that—well, fantastic.
Let's create and decide how you want to share your music, such as streaming or social media. It's how you begin to create your own table and achieve the type of success you've always dreamed of.
🎶 "Finding your seat at the table isn't a one-time move—it's an ongoing journey of showing up, defining your voice, and building connections that last. The industry may feel crowded, but there's always room for authenticity. Keep carving out your space, because the world needs what only you can bring."
